Doughnuts are the street thug of the pastry world; strutting past Cupcake, snatching the cream from Eclair and making Danish 'break bread'.
Or so says Kamal Grant, owner and doughnut genius behind Sublime Doughnuts. Located over on 10th street by west campus, the fantastic doughnut shop aims to bring the most unique and delicious doughnuts to all who come looking for a phenomenal snack. Here's Grant's bio, taken straight from his site:
"Born and raised in Georgia, Chef Kamal Grant discovered baking would be his calling after a school visit from a food service executive. Since then, Grant’s culinary path took him to distant lands and to explore foreign palates as a cook in the US Navy. He then studied at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in New York and later honed his pastry skills at the American Institute of Baking in Kansas. Ultimately, Grant took his passion for pastries back to Atlanta, and by a “sublime” encounter, he came across a vacant doughnut shop on 10th Street. A month later, that shop would be the home of Sublime Doughnuts, where Grant and staff make homemade world-class creations for Atlanta’s foodies, whose tastes reach beyond the original glaze. “We want it to be the best doughnut you ever had in your life,” Grant says. “We are trying to go for someone’s last meal on death row.”"
If you get a chance, i advise you to go visit and grab a couple. I bought 4 doughnuts just this morning, and before i went to class they were already gone, thanks to my hallmates. If you do go, I urge you to pick up as many as your budget allows, and whoever gets a taste of one of those delightful circles will have an exponentially better day, guarenteed.
Doughnuts... *_*
ReplyDeleteWould you say they are better than Krispy Kreme donuts and Dunkin' Donuts put together?
What flavors would you recommend?
I heard about Sublime doughtnuts briefly from my father but didn't get much detail aside from "they are the best." Definitely have to look for this place as Krispy Kreme is too far from campus xD
I have had the S'mores doughnut from Sublime before. While not a traditional doughnut flavor, it does taste almost like a real s'more while still retaining normal doughnut goodness.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I didn't see this post till now. I really *heart* doughnuts. The recommendation is appreciated indeed.
ReplyDeleteHis line, "Donuts are the street thugs of the pastry world..." is brilliant!
