I never knew that edible gold existed. Apparently it is a good topping for romantic occasions. A 10 gram container goes for $700.00. I don't think I will be purchasing any soon.
I have heard of this before, but never saw it. That is definitely ridiculous, like how good could it taste? It may taste interesting, but I seriously don't think it is worth the money for metallic tasting food. It does look very nice though. What inspired you to post this, or where did you hear about it?
Nah, you don't actually *eat* the gold. I think it's just a decorative topping, but it is real gold, not food topping colored with gold or whatever. I'm familiar with similarly decorated sweets - topped with real powdered silver metal. Of course that's much cheaper.
I have had gold on like a food before. I actually don't think it's that expensive, because when you buy gold foil it comes in really really thin sheets that just fall apart, so you don't actually have that much of it. It doesn't really have much of a flavor. It just adds a nice flare to the food for decoration.
They also have diamonds they put on food. I think Jake you actually showed me that picture. I am not sure. But this goes up there with people who put diamonds and gold on their mouth and on their cell phones. It is pointless and interferes with funtion/ purpose of the item / food.

ReplyDeleteYeah, gold is edible. Goldschlager, Italian cinnamon alcohol, has flakes of gold floating in it.
ReplyDeleteI love that photo! Gorgeous dessert. But I think it's too expensive for me. btw, I'm interested in what's it made from.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it has much of a taste. Even if it does it's probably masked by the flavor of the food it's on.

ReplyDeleteSo you just scrape it off? Seems kinda pointless lol

ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like some farmers have had their work cut out for themselves. Edible gold? Seems a little overkill, I'll stick to cake for my dessert =P
