The real life of Dairy and Veal Cows

Today is class we were going over the way we should go for organic products and also talking about how we should watch out for the little farmers instead of huge industries. In my architecture class, a group gave a presentation on the cruelty that is put upon cows. It was shocking and horrifying to I think just about everyone in the class and that's why I think we should watch where we get our milk from. Get pasteurized cows milk, not cows forced in a world stuck in their feces and urine.

  1. Woah snap! That's pretty messed up. Makes me never want to drink milk or eat cow again. But who are we fooling, we are gonna eat and drink from the cow anyway (if you already were before you saw this). However, I think it may be possible to be selective and drink milk from a cow that has not had to endure such great suffering. As far as meat is concerned, I'm not sure if many people find it all that important to eat meat from a cow that was happy just before it was slaughtered.

  2. The problem is that at the end of the day the whole process is all about maximizing profit, so they are going to get away with as much cruelty as they can

  3. That definitely is cruel but sadly money makes the world go round. With money (and of course tons of it), anyone can get whatever they want done as mentioned from the Food, Inc. trailer where they mentioned how it's essentially against the law to record anything about food processing.

  4. I don't think this cruelty is anything new. Sure, money and the lure of larger profits make it easier, but man has been cruel to animals for eons. We like to think that in the absence of machines, before the Industrial Revolution, we were very nice to our farm animals and everything was fine and dandy. Fact is, earlier farmers would starve their cattlestock and adulterate milk with water and what not, things which they can't get away with today.

Some forms of cruelty to animals has become easier today with the aid of machines, and the video depicts one of them. Sometimes, these little farmers have no choice but to compete with large corporations who do the same thing by copying them. This does not make the milk any less "natural" or the meat "genetically altered" - one could argue this, and thereby the farmers are not deviating from "organic farming".

  5. That is very cruel. This video made me look at milk products in different ways. it is product of animal abuse and cruelty.
